Welcome to Brittas Bay, one of the most spectacular beaches in Ireland. The word "Brittas" is a direct borrowing from the Old French bretesche meaning "brattice/boarding/planking". The word refers to the wooden defences which are often associated with a motte (a castle-mound of the Anglo-Norman period); the useage of the word "brittas" in place-names means that the mound is an Anglo-Norman motte, rather than a native Irish motte.

Brittas Bay is one of the finest pleasure beaches in the Republic and is by far the most popular beach for day tripping Dubliners, trying to get out of the city on a summer day. Brittas Bay has some 5 kilometers (3 miles) of beautiful white sand dunes and clean beaches. The sand dunes, which by the way are a designated area of scientific interest, are home to many fascinating plants and wildlife species. Brittas Bay has had a European Union (EU) Blue Flag for the last five consecutive years, indicating the cleanliness and security of the beach.

With no headlands to interfere with the peaceful rhythm, it is ideal for bathing, sailing and walking. Close by are many golf courses, shops, a driving range, pubs and public and private car parking.
